Girls in Politics

Around the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October, girls and young women (6 to 18 years) are shadowing local politicians from all over Austria. They accompany mayoresses, mayors and their deputies in their everyday work to get an insight into the diverse tasks and opportunities of local politics. The aim of the project is to make role models visible and to motivate girls and young women for politics.

At the same time, exchange and dialogue between political decision makers and young women and girls is strengthened. The project takes place annually since 2022, in 2025 it was expanded to include the districts of Vienna in addition to the cities and municipalities.

Girls in Politics is a joint initiative of the Directorate General for Women and Equality together with the Austrian Federation of Municipalities and the Austrian Association of Cities and Towns.
